Standard 7: Planning

Standard 7:  Planning

Description: “The teacher plans instruction based on knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, and curriculum goals.”

Reflection: As a teacher it is very important to remind ones self that there is a whole world outside of their classroom. We need to make sure we are incorporating the world into our classrooms.  It is very important for content teachers specifically to keep up with the current knowledge base of their subject. Being able to bring up and discuss current events that are on the minds of ones students can provide for invaluable learning experiences. Also by incorporating the local community students live, into the lessons, they will have a be both comfortable and familiar about topics. In science there are many abstract theories which students have a hard time grasping with all the scientific terms and diagrams they are unfamiliar with. However, if you can used analogize or examples using local points of reference or sports, students maybe able to get over the hurdle of scientific jargon. All the while as a teacher it is critical to make sure students are taught the information they will be held accountable for.

Evidence: My evidence of working to meld these many different partners of education is in this interdisciplinary unit plan.
